🎃 Empowering Youth Through Halloween & Healing: WOCOTM at San Antonio Park, Oakland

On October 19th, San Antonio Park in Oakland came alive with vibrant energy, laughter, and purpose as Women of Color On The Move (WOCOTM) hosted a community-centered Halloween celebration for local youth and families. This wasn’t just about costumes and candy—it was about connection, healing, and empowerment.

Oakland, currently ranked as the second most dangerous city in the United States, faces deep-rooted challenges—from substance abuse and mental health crises to economic instability and systemic inequities. But WOCOTM is here to change that narrative.
We believe in the power of local women, girls, and youth to lead transformation in their communities. That’s why our Halloween event was more than festive—it was a platform for:
  • 🎭 Creative Expression: Youth designed costumes and shared stories, reclaiming joy in a safe space.
  • 🧠 Mental Health Tools: Our volunteers distributed wellness kits and hosted mindfulness activities.
  • 💼 Workforce Development Resources: Teens and young adults connected with mentors and learned about career pathways.
  • 🔬 STEM Exploration: Interactive booths introduced science and tech in fun, hands-on ways.
This event was part of our ongoing commitment to support, uplift, and equip our community with the tools they need to thrive. Whether through advocacy, education, or direct services, WOCOTM stands with Oakland’s women and youth—especially those impacted by trauma and systemic neglect.
We’re proud to be on the ground, building trust and creating opportunities. Because when we invest in our youth, we invest in a stronger, safer, and more vibrant Oakland.
