about the program

Mission

The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Program led by Women of Color on the Move is dedicated to improving the health and well-being of mothers, infants, and children, particularly in underserved and resource-constrained communities. The program ensures equitable access to quality healthcare services, promotes preventive care, and addresses social determinants of health that impact maternal and child outcomes.

Key Components

Prenatal and Postnatal Care

Providing comprehensive maternal healthcare services, including routine check-ups, screenings, and counseling, to ensure safe pregnancies and deliveries.

Infant and Child Health

Promoting early childhood development, immunization, nutrition support, and disease prevention to improve survival rates and healthy growth.

Family Planning and Reproductive Health

Offering education and services related to contraception, birth spacing, and reproductive health to empower families in making informed decisions.

Nutrition and Breastfeeding Support

Encouraging exclusive breastfeeding, providing maternal nutrition education, and addressing malnutrition in children.

Community Outreach and Education

Conducting workshops, awareness campaigns, and support groups to educate families on maternal and child health, with a focus on communities disproportionately affected by health disparities.

Health Workforce Training

Strengthening the capacity of healthcare providers, midwives, and community health workers to deliver quality maternal and child health services.

Addressing Social Determinants of Health

Tackling issues such as poverty, gender inequality, homelessness, and limited healthcare access that contribute to poor maternal and child health outcomes.

Impact of Women of Color on the Move

Women of Color on the Move prioritizes serving historically marginalized communities, including low-income families, women of color, and those affected by systemic barriers to healthcare. By integrating culturally competent care, advocacy, and community-based interventions, the program ensures that mothers and children receive the support they need for healthy lives.

Outcomes

  • Reduction in maternal and infant mortality rates in underserved communities
  • Improved access to prenatal, postnatal, and pediatric healthcare
  • Increased awareness and use of family planning services
  • Enhanced child development and immunization coverage
  • Strengthened healthcare systems and workforce to support mothers and children

Through this program, Women of Color on the Move is committed to creating sustainable solutions that promote maternal and child health equity, ultimately improving the quality of life for families in need.
